You can’t stop Resurrection Sunday from Coming!

How many of you remember seeing the old cartoon by Dr. Seuss entitled “How the Grinch Stole Christmas?” If you did you, you will remember the Grinch hated Christmas. He hated the decorations, the feasting, the fun, and most of all the sounds of the Whos gathering together to sing in the Christmas season. As the story unfolds, the Grinch slips into town and steals all the gifts, the decorations, and all the food and returns to his lair to wait and see the crying and disappointment on the faces of the Whos in Whoville. Much to his disappointment, all the Whos got up that Christmas morning, without any gifts, food, or decorations, and gathered in the town square and held hands and sang as the spirit of Christmas still came. As the story is told, it says you cannot stop Christmas because the meaning of Christmas is not in gifts, or food, or decorations but it is in the heart.

So here we are in lock-down across the country due to COVID-19 as the resurrection Sunday is upon us. Some news reporter has stated we cannot celebrate Easter this year (I do not use Easter to describe the Resurrection so you know). Well I am here to tell you they are wrong. We will celebrate the Resurrection even if we do not have the gifts, the food, the decorations, or the church services in person. We will celebrate the presence of a risen savior who lives today in our hearts. He has risen so we can have life and have it more abundantly. He has conquered the grave and given us hope when all we had was despair and doom. He is alive and He is our Lord and savior. How can we not celebrate the resurrection? The only virus that will stop the celebration of the resurrection Sunday is the virus of sin and my Lord has the vaccine for that:

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:9-10

Can you stop Resurrection Sunday from coming? The answer is no because it comes from the heart!

I Serve A Risen Savior by Alfred Henry Ackley

I serve a risen Savior
He’s in the world today.
I know that He is living,
Whatever men may say.
I see His hand of mercy;
I hear His voice of cheer;
And just the time I need Him
He’s always near.

He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today!
He walks with me and talks with me along life’s narrow way.
He lives, He lives, salvation to impart!
You ask me how I know He lives?
He lives within my heart.

In all the world around me
I see His loving care,
And though my heart grows weary,
I never will despair;
I know that He is leading,
Through all the stormy blast;
The day of His appearing
Will come at last.

Rejoice, rejoice, O Christian,
Lift up your voice and sing
Eternal hallelujahs
To Jesus Christ the King!
The Hope of all who seek Him,
The Help of all who find,
None other is so loving,
So good and kind.
